The Pennsylvania State Police entry-level cadet written assessment is actually developed by a private vendor contracted by the State of Pennsylvania. The EB Jacobs company, as contracted by the State of Pennsylvania, has produced the Law Enforcement Aptitude Battery (LEAB). This version of the LEAB is a 3-part assessment consisting of 158 questions which is administered with a 2 hour and 30 minute time limit. The 3 distinct parts of the LEAB include the following: Part 1 – Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT) consisting of 48 questions; Part 2 – Work Styles Questionnaire (WSQ) consisting of 66 trait assessment statements; and Part 3 – Life Experience Survey (LES) consisting of 44 questions. The Pennsylvania State Police are utilizing the computer-based version of the LEAB. Candidates must achieve a high composite score on the examination to be included in a hiring process.
