New Jersey Civil Service LEE
The Civil Service Application Period
The New Jersey Civil Service Commission (NJCSC) has opened the 2022 NJ LEE application period. The NJCSC application period for the NJ LEE opened on January 3, 2022 and is closing on February 28, 2022. Candidates interested in applying for the NJ LEE Exam (3-year list), MUST submit applications for each title and jurisdiction for which he or she wishes to be eligible. Candidates must remember that most jurisdictions give a preference to residents. It is most advised to ensure you (at a minimum) apply for your home town (if civil service), your county, and then any state titles for which you may be interested.
In 2019, the NJCSC implemented a new system for the scheduling of candidates for the exam. Well after the application closing date, those who applied with the NJCSC for the actual exam had the opportunity to select a test date, time, and location from a long list of options provided through the SignUpGenius online portal. This means that candidates will likely be able to choose a test date throughout the testing cycle that best matches up with their schedule.
In 2019, the actual testing dates were scheduled for Saturdays at community college sites around the state for the seven-week period. The NJCSC used county college facilities in Bergen County, Passaic County, Hudson County, Essex County, Union County, Middlesex County, Ocean County, Mercer County, Camden County, and Atlantic County. Candidates had the ability to choose any of the locations and were not limited to their home county.
When to Complete the Online Prep Course?
Every candidate is different, as some like to schedule their test early while others prefer to wait to a later test date among the options available. Regardless of when the candidate chooses to test this cycle, the CCS Test Prep® Online Program has an established timeline of phasing in learning components during the weeks immediately leading up to the day of the student’s exam. The timeline is based on analyzing and identifying the most successful methods of training for students to achieve the highest outcomes. Students who prepare during the month (weeks and days) leading directly up to the actual exam date consistently score higher than students who attend courses too far from the exam administration. The CCS Test Prep® Online Program utilizes the ideal timelines for the greatest student success.
The NJ LEE
The NJ LEE is a very important exam, as it includes varied law enforcement titles and has only been administered once every three years since 2010. The titles covered by the exam include: Municipal Police Officer, Campus Police Officer Recruit, County Police Officer, Park Police Officer, Police Officer Recruit Human Services, Police Officer Palisades Interstate Park, Sheriff’s Officer, State Park Police Officer, County Correctional Police Officer, State Correctional Police Officer (NJDOC), State Correctional Police Officer Juvenile Justice, Parole Officer Recruit Juvenile Justice Commission and Parole Officer Recruit. Well over 30,000 candidates sit for the LEE. Candidates must achieve exceptional test scores in order to be among the top candidates eligible to be considered for openings during the 3-year lists. Proper preparation is critical when taking this very competitive exam!
The State of New Jersey chose the PSI testing company as the vendor to write and administer the LEE exam. The specific exam utilized is a multi-factor psychometric test that has proven to be the most comprehensive, valid, and reliable entry-level law enforcement exam available nationally. This is the exact type of exam which served as the basis of much of Chief Paprota’s doctoral research.
