The Civil Service Application Period
The New Jersey Civil Service Commission (NJCSC) announces the LEE testing cycle and opens the application period every March 1st for only one month. Each civil service department around the state has the ability to “opt in” for the testing cycle each year or extend their current list from a previous cycle. The exam is expected to be administered in July. New Jersey has implemented a new system for the scheduling of candidates for the exam. Once you apply with the NJCSC for the actual exam and the application period closes, you will have the opportunity to select (based on availability) a test date, time, and location from a list of options provided through an online portal. This means that you will be able to choose a test date throughout the testing cycle that best matches up with your schedule. The NJCSC commonly makes the scheduling portal available during the first week in May for those candidates who properly apply in March before the closing date for applications.
What is the NJ LEE Civil Service Exam?
Candidates must achieve exceptional test scores in order to be among the top candidates eligible to be considered for openings. Proper preparation is critical when taking this very competitive exam!
The Civil Service Commission continues to utilize EB Jacobs (PSI-Talogy) as the vendor to write and administer the LEE exam. The specific exam utilized is the Law Enforcement Aptitude Battery (LEAB-II™) which is a multi-factor psychometric test that has proven to be the most comprehensive, valid, and reliable entry-level law enforcement exam available nationally. This is the exact exam which served as the basis of much of Chief Paprota’s doctoral research.
