The City of Chicago accepts applications online during specified periods for candidates from around the country to sit for the competitive, entry-level police written examination. CCS Test Prep® maintains a specific prep program for the Chicago Police Department Entry-Level Police Officer Examination. The exam is open to city residents as well as non-residents.
The City of Chicago utilizes a very challenging written examination to test candidates for entry-level police officer positions. The written exam is designed by I/O Solutions (IOS) specifically for the Chicago Police Department and draws on the National Criminal Justice Officer Selection Inventory (NCJOSI™). The exam involves 80 cognitive questions derived from 10 different cognitive areas. The multiple-choice cognitive questions commonly prove difficult for many candidates.
